Earthquake Drill

ShakeOut BC, organized by the British Columbia Earthquake Alliance (BCEA), is an annual initiative focused on earthquake preparedness and safety. The Great BC ShakeOut  allows individuals, communities, schools, and organizations to practice “Drop, Cover, and Hold On.” Participants are encouraged to review and update their emergency plans and supplies, and to secure their spaces to prevent damage and injuries. ShakeOut BC aims to ensure all people in BC are aware of essential earthquake safety steps and are actively enhancing their readiness and resilience, promoting a culture of safety and preparedness across the province.

Tsunami Preparedness

British Columbia’s coastlines are at risk of tsunami events, which can cause significant damage and impact communities. This Project aims to enhance preparedness.

QuakeTales is a storytelling initiative curated by the BC Earthquake Alliance, where people in BC share their personal experiences with earthquakes and tsunamis. This page features real-life stories that highlight the impact of these natural disasters and promote awareness and preparedness in our communities. Through QuakeTales, we aim to educate and inspire resilience by connecting people with the human side of seismic events.

Canadian Red Cross Inclusive Resilience

BC Earthquake Alliance was pleased to partner in this project.  The project  identified the most effective means to increase awareness of floods, wildfires, and earthquakes and practical actions to prepare for these hazards among women, seniors, people with low income, Indigenous Peoples, and newcomers to Canada.
