April 2024 BCEA Updates – Tsunami Preparedness Week, EP Week, Virtual Community of Practice, and more
A few updates for your information. As we approach Volunteer Appreciation Week, I want to give a special advance shout out to all of our volunteers and yours who help in so many ways with our collective preparedness activities. Thank you!
Tsunami Preparedness Week is almost here!
Thank you to everyone who has collaborated with us to increase our reach through the Earthquake Preparedness Tour with the Quake Cottage. We are immensely grateful for Canadian Red Cross for joining the Insurance Bureau of Canada in support of the Tour.
Our activities started yesterday, a little ahead of Tsunami Preparedness Week with a great day at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria. Tomorrow we will be in Port Alberni, Saturday in Tofino, Sunday in Ucleulet, The following week, we will visit Ehattesaht and Delta. We also have a few more locations planned. If these events are in your area, please share.
Last fall, University of the Fraser Valley kicked off our extended Tour during ShakeOut Week and we hope to have visits to the Northwest of the Province later in the Spring.

We know that some of your events are already scheduled. If anyone is interested in having the Quake Cottage attend on Vancouver Island May 4th, please contact Rob at info@motionsafe.ca as soon as possible. It will help bring costs down for hosts if gaps between communities are filled.
Next Virtual Community of Practice
Community Groups and Organizations are invited to Join us on May 28th at 1p.m. for our next virtual Community of Practice. BCEA Board Member Miranda Myles will facilitate. Register via our event calendar.
Quake Tales Project
Thank you to those of you who have made referrals. We are beginning to curate the stories and we look forward to sharing. We are currently looking for stories from British Columbians who have survived and earthquake or tsunami. Please spread the word. We know that stories with a local connection makes a difference.
