Jen McEachen

Director

With two decades of board and committee service, a consulting practice focused on disaster resiliency and accessibility, and extensive public speaking experience, I bring a unique combination of emergency management expertise and equity-driven advocacy. My credentials include an Associate’s Degree in Emergency Management, ongoing bachelor-level studies at the Justice Institute of British Columbia, and previous administrative experience in VR and HR. As a former Toastmasters speaker, I excel at translating complex preparedness concepts into clear, inclusive messages for both communities and decision-makers.

I have delivered over 20 years of public engagement through keynotes, webinars, and panels on topics such as guide dog etiquette, disability-inclusive emergency planning, and accessible risk communication. My consulting work focuses on improving disaster preparedness for underserved and equity-deserving populations, with a particular passion for enhancing earthquake and tsunami awareness in areas where accessible, reliable information is lacking. Drawing on lived experience with disability, I advocate for practical accessibility solutions and guide emergency management professionals on effectively engaging individuals with disabilities before, during, and after disasters.

My governance experience includes serving as DEIA Director for CRHNet, Chair of the CNIB Deafblind Community Services Advocacy Group, and member of the JIBC Accessibility Committee. These roles have strengthened my strategic oversight, collaborative leadership, and equity-focused policy development skills. I am committed to embedding equity, diversity, and inclusion principles into all programs and ensuring preparedness messaging reaches all communities. I look forward to applying my accessibility expertise, emergency management knowledge, and leadership experience to help the BC Earthquake Alliance Society expand equitable earthquake and tsunami preparedness across British Columbia.
