BCEA Announces New Initiatives and official proclamation of ShakeOut Week
This fall, in addition to public education events and updating emergency preparedness tables, BCEA is visiting a number of communities and organizations to pilot, Earthquake Preparedness: Tips to help individuals, organizations, and neighborhoods be more resilient. Presentations have been very well-received in Langley, North Vancouver, and Coquitlam. This month, presentations will also be made in West Vancouver. Thanks to support from our sponsors, partner organizations and funders, we are pleased to visit communities throughout BC as capacity permits.
The BCEA Board of Directors has recently held its 2023/24 strategic refresh. The ShakeOutBC earthquake drill remains a priority as does continuing efforts to address inclusiveness through increased engagement and reach to underserved communities.

New activities ahead include:
An ‘Earthquake Preparedness Tour’ that includes the Quake Cottage.’ Support from additional sponsors and funders will help ensure that we are reaching underserved communities.
Quake Tales Project: We are curating real stories of survival from BC residents caught in major earthquakes around the World. Have you lived through a major earthquake? Would you be willing to share your story with other British Columbians, with the hope that sharing your story might convince more people to prepare for the Big One? If so, we want to hear from you. Please share your personal stories with us of your own lived experience in a major earthquake.
You can reach out for more information or send us your stories here: office@bcearthquakealliance.ca
Virtual Community of Practice: These 45-60 minute sessions are designed to connect groups/organizations that have a role in providing education and share experiences, resources, and questions in a safe space. It is also an opportunity to share, brainstorm, and hear about what other organizations are doing. Input from these sessions may guide future education sessions. February 27th 1-2PM Session May 28th 1-2PM Session August 27th 1-2PM Session

Sponsor Partner Shout Out: A special thank you to BCAA for their support of our efforts to reach underserved communities this year. We have been engaged with a number of organizations to increase our reach and with the help of interns and volunteers, we have translated posters into Chinese, Hindi, Urdu and most recently Punjabi. Posters in additional languages are being prepared as capacity permits. A virtual gathering of organizations supporting underserved communities is planned for later this month to share lessons learned and to identify needs.
